Nicola Erdsack

Adjunct Assistant Professor - Environmental Studies - Interdisciplinary Programs

Nicola Erdsack

Ph.D. Zoology, University of Rostock, Germany
Biology Diploma with Marine Biology Major, University of Rostock, Germany
Library & Information Science Diploma (equiv. MLIS), TH Koeln, College for Library and  Information Science, Cologne, Germany

Academic/Research Interest:

Dr. Erdsack is a marine biologist, specializing in marine mammal thermal biology, and interest in  marine mammal sensory biology and cognition. After investigating thermoregulatory strategies in  mostly cold adapted seals and sea lions, her current research focuses on thermoregulation in  Florida manatees. Dr. Erdsack received her Ph.D. in 2013 from University of Rostock, Germany,  followed by a postdoctoral project on cognition in seals until 2015. A Research Grant from the  German Research Foundation (DFG) brought her to Mote Marine Laboratory in 2016, where she  investigates the “manatee cold stress syndrome” (CSS) and the impact of environmental factors  on manatee physiology.
