Health Promotion and Outreach Services
Healthy Outreach and Prevention Services (HOPS) supports a student’s autonomy to make informed health decisions by providing quality wellness education in order to prevent negative outcomes.
We educate students about alcohol and other drugs, mental health, interpersonal relationships, and other pertinent health information. We facilitate our education through interactive tables, events, and presentations, as well as consultations. Our programming is often delivered by our certified Peer Health Educators to make the biggest impact on our campus.
Programming
Programming is an essential component to the work we do on campus. We partner with campus and community organizations to provide wellness education in fun, informative ways. We will often table, host events, or facilitate presentations on our various wellness topics. If you are interested in requesting us/our Peer Health Educators to deliver this programming, please contact us.
Peer Educator Program
Peer Health Educators are NCF’s peer education program. This peer education group consists of students with various Areas of Concentration, life experiences, and years in college. Our Peer Health Educators go through a certification process to ensure they are delivering evidence-based programming on campus via tabling, presentations, and events.
This program provides high-impact learning opportunities for students who are passionate about the pursuit of knowledge for themselves and more importantly, their fellow students. If you are interested in becoming a Peer Health Educator, please contact us.
Wellness Consultations
Consultations can include goal setting, gathering information on a wellness topic, asking general wellness information questions, connecting you to wellness resources, and/or consulting on an event to ensure wellness is at the forefront. In cases of educational sanctions, this service will discuss the alcohol and other drug usage surrounding the conduct case and provide education on the risks associated with use.
Your information remains private and not confidential per the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This privacy is similar to the privacy you can expect from private conversations with faculty, staff, and Student Affairs personnel. In cases of educational sanctions, we will disclose to the overseer of the case that the student has met with CWC staff but will not disclose the conversations held during the service unless it conflicts with limits to
privacy.
If you are interested in a wellness consultation, please contact us.
What is Peer Education?
Peer education is a dynamic approach to health promotion rooted in the fact that students naturally look to their peers for trusted information and advice. As a Peer Educator, you bridge the gap between administration and the student body, translating evidence-based health data into accessible, relatable content. Utilizing harm reduction strategies, peer education focuses on encouraging healthy lifestyles and reducing high-risk behaviors in a non-judgmental way.
Why Become a Peer Educator?
- National Certification: Every HOPS Peer Educator completes the nationally recognized Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training from the BACCHUS affiliates of NASPA, a powerful credential for your resume.
- Professional Skill Building: Gain hands-on experience in public speaking, independent health research, event programming, and collaborative teamwork.
- Digital Marketing Experience: Sharpen your creative skills by managing official campus social media accounts and designing diverse digital content (videos, infographics, flyers).
- Measurable Personal Growth: Set and achieve custom SMART goals each semester to directly advance your continuing education and career skills.
- Make a Tangible Impact: Play a vital role in shaping a safer, healthier, and more empathetic culture across the NCF campus community.
Mission Statement
The Healthy Outreach and Prevention Services (HOPS) campus organization is a student-first program where a team of Peer Educators works with the campus Health Promotion Coordinator to dedicate their time to improving the well-being of the NCF community. By using a wellness model that incorporates physical, mental, social, emotional, and intellectual health, the Peer Educators design accessible evidence-based programs to help students make informed decisions about their health.
