Kent Hatch, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Biology in the Natural Sciences Division at New College of Florida. He received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and his B.S. from Brigham Young University. He previously taught at Brigham Young University and Long Island University, retiring from the latter as a full professor. His research foci include the microbiome of marine invertebrates, physiological ecology, of birds and other vertebrates, stable isotope ecology, and migration physiology and ecology. He currently teaches courses in comparative anatomy, ornithology, and biophysical ecology. In the past he has taught courses in evolution, ecology, conservation biology, human anatomy and physiology, comparative animal physiology, and research methods. He has been the Director of the Pritzker Marine Research Center since August 2025 and has been a faculty member at New College since January 2025. He regularly involves undergraduate students in field and laboratory research projects and has many undergraduate coauthors on peer-reviewed scientific papers.
