Student Health Services

The Counseling and Wellness Center provides medical services including a range of primary care, referral, and educational services, for currently enrolled New College and USF Sarasota-Manatee students.

Special Announcement: We at the CWC are closely monitoring the COVID-19 Virus and will update this page as more information is made available. At this time, we recommend that people use “flu” precautions, which include washing hands, not touching your face, and covering coughing/sneezing without the use of your hands. For more information on the novel virus please visit the CDC website here.

Medical services  must be scheduled through the call center (941-487-4254 press 2 for medical services) and will be offered through Tele-health, video consultation, or in-person appointments at SMD 105 (portable on the USFSM campus). We understand the high levels of concern and need for testing for COVID-19 and as such we want to provide safe means to do so. All appointments will be completed through a telehealth platform where our provider will be able to complete their assessment and minimize the risk to the campus community of possible spread. If there are concerns that need further testing, our practitioner will be able to direct you to the next steps. We will still have the same limitations of providing services to people who are currently in Florida, but that means we will also be able to provide services to people who are not on campus and can access a safe place to do a video conference. Unfortunately, we are only  able to provide services to students during the fall and spring semester they are enrolled in. We know that this is not a perfect solution, so please let us know the difficulties you are experiencing in accessing our services or other treatment options.

Here at New College, we have partnered with USF Health to bring you enhanced and more comprehensive medical services! Our services function just as a typical community primary care facility would, but with an office located on campus for the students’ convenience. Here is a guide to help you understand how our services work.

  • All students can be seen for medical services at Sarasota-Manatee, in partnership with the CWC, whether insured and uninsured. If the student has insurance, USF Health will charge the insurance carrier for the services rendered. Students without insurance will not be charged for general medical video or office visits.

  • We offer our patients the courtesy of medical services with NO co-payments charged for our USF Health services, as the student health fee covers the co-pays
  • Please note that if you have insurance and you receive USF Health services, you may receive an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) in the mail. NOTE: An EOB is not a bill and so the amount billed by a provider on an EOB is not what you will have to pay.
  • If you see one of our USF Health providers and they recommend that you obtain lab work, you must check with your insurance carrier AHEAD of TIME to see which lab you can utilize so that you will not receive a bill for the lab work.
  • Alternatively, if for your convenience, you prefer to have your lab work done in our office, we will process your labs through Quest Labs.
  • If you use us or an outside Quest Laboratory, and you later receive a bill from Quest Lab., USF Health billing department will review any associated lab charges for you. For a medical appointment or to be transferred to billing department, call (941) 487-4254 Option 2.
  • We have an after hours nursing line for medical questions and concerns. Please call (941) 487-4254 option 2

During the Fall and Spring terms, medical services are available with a medical practitioner.  Services are not available during Summer term or Winter break.
