There have been no confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in our campus community.
Governor DeSantis has established a statewide Task Force to Re-Open Florida that includes three members of the State University System of Florida Board of Governors: Syd Kitson (board chair), Richard Corcoran and Eric Silagy. This task force will make recommendations to the governor about how and when to reopen Florida’s economy after the governor’s “safer-at-home” order expires on April 30. To learn more, read Chairman Kitson’s letter.
As you know, the remainder of the spring academic program will take place online. Our in-person commencement, originally scheduled for May 15, has been canceled, and we will hold an in-person postponed sunset ceremony on Sat. Dec. 5.
We have begun to plan for the transition back from working remotely to working on campus. Our decisions will be guided by recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state and the county, and the transition will most likely be conducted as a phased process. We have also begun to start planning for the fall semester.
Starting tomorrow, students will be allowed to return to campus during individual timeslots they have scheduled with Student Affairs to retrieve their belongings from the residence halls. The scheduling allows us to ensure appropriate social distancing, hence safety.
Please continue to remain vigilant about social distancing and frequent hand washing to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Stay safe and take care of each other.
