(August 24, 2009) — New College of Florida is proud to announce that Associate Provost Maribeth Clark has been elected to the Council of the American Musicological Society (AMS).  Clark’s election is for the 2010-2012 term of the council and will begin at the annual meeting of the AMS, which is scheduled to be held in Philadelphia in November 2009. In addition to her duties as associate provost, Clark also serves as an associate professor of music at New College.

“Maribeth’s election to this prestigious council speaks to the respect she has earned among her professional colleagues in her discipline,” said New College of Florida Provost Charlene Callahan in announcing Clark’s election to the AMS. “It’s especially impressive that Maribeth has been able to maintain a presence in her academic and scholarly community while devoting so much effort to the administrative side of things at New College.  Clearly this brings positive visibility to the College on a national level.”
Established in 1934, the AMS was founded as a non-profit organization to advance research in the various fields of music as a branch of learning and scholarship. Since 1951, the AMS has been a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies and at present boasts some 3,300 individual members.  In addition to individual members, the society includes 1,200 member institutions representing forty nations.
As a member of the Council of the AMS, Clark joins a group of sixty elected members and thirty student representatives who advise the society’s board of directors on policy issues.
