Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition opens Feb. 3

New College of Florida’s annual Juried Student Art Exhibition will be on display from Monday, February 3, through Friday, March 13, at the College’s Isermann Gallery, with an opening reception on Thursday, February 6.

The annual Juried Student Art Exhibition is going up in Isermann Gallery.

Students in New College’s art department draw upon a range of academic influences, inspiring compelling and varied artworks that explore meaning through diverse modes of production. This year’s exhibition celebrates the most outstanding levels of creative achievement from the past academic year and features 25 artists and 32 works of art ranging from traditional to kinetic sculpture, painting, drawing, digital media, sound and animation.

There will be a reception and awards ceremony for the artists on Thursday, February 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m, with awards and the juror’s talk at 5:30 pm. This year’s juror is Nathan Skiles, professor of art at Ringling College of Art and Design. Skiles’ recent exhibitions include Skyway at the Tampa Museum of Art, Will The Circle Be Unbroken at the Center for Arts and Culture at the University of Notre Dame, The Clockmaker’s Apprentice, The Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton, NJ; Black Forest / White Lightning, Sloan Fine Art, New York, NY; Welcome to Tartarus, Welcome to Valhalla, Greene Contemporary, New York, NY.

This year’s event sponsors include Art & Frame of Sarasota. Support for this event is provided by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The event is free and open to the public. Isermann Gallery is behind the Sainer Fine Arts Pavilion on New College’s Caples Campus, at 5313 Bay Shore Road, just south of Ringling Museum. The gallery is open from noon to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
