Knoxville, TN — The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) is pleased to announce that Cassandra Azeredo-Tseng, a student in biochemistry and applied math at the New College of Florida, has been selected for its highly competitive Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (SRE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT). The NIMBioS SRE program runs for eight weeks, from June 4-July 26, and includes 18 undergraduates from universities across the United States. Participants receive free university apartment-style housing, a stipend of $4,500 and some support for travel to and from Knoxville. Participants work in teams with NIMBioS postdoctoral researchers and UT faculty on research at the interface of mathematics and biology. This year’s projects range from modeling the opioid epidemic, investigating climate change as a driver of change in human-wildlife interactions, understanding cell differentiation in cancer pathogenesis, and more.
