Bio

Rohan Loveland, D.Phil./M.B.A., is Assistant Professor of Computer Science in the Natural Sciences Division at New College of Florida.

 He received his D.Phil. in Electrical Engineering from Oxford University and his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. He brings a long career spanning teaching roles in higher education in the US and abroad, as well as work in government, industry, and high-tech start-ups.

 At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), his work centered on classified projects. He later served as CEO of a high-tech biomedical device startup that received FDA approval. His research interests are in virtual reality and developing machine learning based anomaly detection algorithms, which have been applied in areas ranging from locating crashed lunar probes to finding unusual objects in drone imagery. He holds two patents, is founding an exergame start-up, and is interested in promoting entrepreneurship generally. He joined New College as part of the 2024 new faculty cohort.
