New College of Florida Dedicates Lincoln Díaz-Balart Freedom Park to Honor his Legacy of Leadership and Liberty

SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2025) —New College of Florida dedicated the new Lincoln Díaz-Balart Freedom Park, honoring one of its most distinguished alumni and one of Florida’s staunchest champions of liberty, public service, and the American ideal.

The ceremony brought together family, friends, and state leaders to commemorate Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart’s lifelong commitment to freedom, human dignity, and democratic principles. Speakers included Florida House Speaker Danny Pérez; brother of Cong. Lincoln Diaz Balart, José Díaz-Balart; son of Cong. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Daniel Díaz-Balart; prominent alumnus and long-time friend Bob Allen; and New College President Richard Corcoran. Each paid tribute to Cong. Diaz-Balart’s leadership, mentorship, and deep devotion to both his adopted country and the college that shaped his early adult life.

Set on the bayfront campus Cong. Diaz-Balart once called home, the new park is designed to serve as a living testament to his spirit, a place where dialogue is encouraged, free speech is celebrated, and students gather to reflect on the responsibilities and privileges of a free society.

“Today we honor a man whose life embodied the American promise,” said President Richard Corcoran. “Cong. Lincoln Díaz-Balart devoted his career to advancing liberty at home and around the world. It is only fitting that his legacy be anchored here at New College, on this shoreline he walked as a young scholar and student body president, forming the convictions that would define his public life. This park will inspire generations of students to think boldly, speak freely, and lead courageously.”

Speakers reflected on Cong. Díaz-Balart’s personal and professional journey—from his family’s fight against totalitarianism to his years at New College, where the liberal arts shaped his intellect and the ideals of freedom and justice took root. His son, Daniel Díaz-Balart, spoke movingly about his father’s unwavering belief in America and the mentorship he offered to young leaders seeking to serve their country.

As the ceremony concluded, guests gathered in the historic Charles Ringling Mansion for a reception honoring the Díaz-Balart family and celebrating the park’s opening.

Lincoln Díaz-Balart Freedom Park will now stand as a permanent fixture of New College’s revitalized bayfront—a place for reflection, discussion, and the enduring pursuit of truth, embodying the values Cong. Diaz-Balart championed throughout his extraordinary life and career.
