Data Science Seminar: Acting on Crises: Developing an ATLAS for Geopolitics

Date and Time

Event Description:

Please join us on Tuesday, November 3, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in HNS Chae 114 for an Applied Data Science seminar with Martin Stavro of Terra Vera Analytics. Both graduate Data Science cohorts and undergraduate students in Data Science and Computer Science are invited. Refreshments will be served.

Martin’s talk is titled “Acting on Crises: Developing an ATLAS for Geopolitics.”

How can data help us monitor and anticipate geopolitical developments? Martin will discuss how Terra Vera combines open-source and primary data to compare countries’ vulnerability to influence from U.S. adversaries. He will describe the design process and the challenges of modeling and monitoring countries in support of U.S. national security. The seminar will offer a practical look at how data science is used to address complex questions outside the classroom.

Martin is the platform architect at Terra Vera Analytics, where he leads development of the company’s geopolitical insights platforms. His background is in political science and philosophy, with published research on policing and human rights. He was a top finalist in the NATO Innovation Challenge for Agentic AI and won first place in Posit’s 2025 Great Tables contest.
