There are special circumstances that may qualify you for a tuition exemption or waiver. For more information, please review this information from the Florida Board of Governors.
In order to apply, please click here for the Waiver and Exemption form.
This form is accessed by clicking the above referenced link. It takes you through the student portal so you’ll need a New College account established. (Instructions for MyNCF App Gateway set up are sent upon admission – find your NetID and initial password in ‘Creation of your NCF account PART 1 & 2’ emails.)
Please contact Tara Karas, Financial Aid Director, at [email protected] or 941-487-4463 for additional questions about all waivers.
This waiver is considered for out-of-state students with grandparents who meet the Florida resident documentation requirements. For high school students graduating in 2025-2026, the minimum test scores for consideration are 1330 SAT, 29 ACT or 95 CLT.
The number of waivers available is limited and eligible recipients will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Awards are renewable with continuous full-time enrollment, and may be applied toward up to 110% of the number of credit hours required for your degree program.
The waiver amount is only applied toward tuition and does not include other fees, nor does it apply toward study-abroad programs. A student with a statutory waiver of out-of-state fees may be considered for additional institutional funding, unless total cost of attendance would be exceeded.
The total amount of this award is a 100% reduction (waiver) of the out-of-state portion of tuition, valued at approximately $609 per semester hour (approximately $21,323 per year, based on 35 semester hours billed for the academic year).
In addition to an offer of admission, consideration for the Grandparent Waiver requires this form accompanied by residency documentation:

If you are a student who does not qualify for Florida residency for tuition purposes, but you are graduating from a Florida high school, you might be eligible for a tuition waiver to reduce your tuition and fees to Florida rates.
If you have attended a Florida high school for at least three consecutive years immediately before graduating from a Florida high school, you must apply for enrollment within 24 months after high school graduation, and submit an official Florida high school transcript as evidence of attendance and graduation.
Please note that you cannot be eligible for Florida grant and scholarship programs with this status. Through this waiver, you are charged Florida resident rates for tuition and fees for up to 110 percent of your required hours of the degree for which you are enrolled.
Some students who were in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) when they turned 18, adopted from DCF after May 5, 1997, in a relative’s custody or placed in a court guardianship may be eligible for a DCF Tuition Waiver. This waiver is available until students reach 28 years of age.
For more information on eligibility, please view these FAQs from the Florida Department of Education. Eligible students must complete a Waiver and Exemption form, and submit proof of certification of eligibility from Florida DCF. For more information, please visit this FL DCF webpage.
