Professor Hustwit is an American historian with capacious interests in social and civil rights history. He has been a member of the history faculty at New College since 2023. Hustwit earned his BA in History from Kenyon and a doctorate in American History from the University of Mississippi. Among his publications are James J. Kilpatrick: Salesman for Segregation (2013) and Integration Now: Alexander v. Holmes and the End of Jim Crow Education (2019). Several of his articles and review essays deal with the Civil Rights Movement. When he’s not teaching or writing history, you might find him running, pretending to work out at the gym, reading on the beach, renovating his 1920 Craftsman home, or assisting the coaching staff of the Pittsburgh Steelers from the safety of his sofa.
