In a single 24-hour period from April 26 to 27, the 2022 Giving Challenge generated donations totaling $117,220 for the New College Foundation.

The fundraiser—presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and strengthened by The Patterson Foundation—connected nearly 700 nonprofit partners with donors. The New College Foundation will use the funds for scholarship aid, faculty support, and research opportunities for students.

“We are delighted and overwhelmed by the support provided to New College over the course of 24 hours,” said Kevin Hughes, the associate vice president of advancement for the New College Foundation. “From alumni to parents to faculty, staff, students and friends, everyone came together to demonstrate their support of New College and our students.”

Gifts between $25 and $100 were matched one-to-one by The Patterson Foundation, and 601 donors to the New College Foundation contributed a total of $69,460. The New College Foundation received $47,160 in matching funds from The Patterson Foundation, as well as $600 in prize money ($500 for being one of the first 50 organizations to secure 50 gifts, and $100 for a tweet that recognized a donor).

Also, specifically for the 2022 event, the President’s Council at New College created a brand-new $10,000 matching gift fund. Because of this, any members of the faculty and staff at New College who donated to this year’s Giving Challenge saw their gifts tripled. Among faculty, staff and students, 59 individuals gave gifts this year, totaling $4,625 (this does not include the matching dollars pledged by the President’s Council).

This was New College’s ninth year participating in the Giving Challenge and, to date, the event has helped raise more than $900,000 for the New College Foundation. Since 1980, the New College Foundation has raised upwards of $100 million in public and private funds for everything from endowments and academic programs to faculty positions and new buildings.

“We would like to thank all of our donors for their generous contributions to the Giving Challenge this year,” Hughes said. “We know that their gifts will enhance the experience of our students.”
