She was not supposed to live. Much of the beauty and innocence of her youth was stolen from her by the Nazis who invaded her native Poland when she was 19 years of age. … No she was not supposed to live, but she did, and she grew to be a force of goodness and decency in the world and proudly considers herself an American Patriot. … Dr. Fagin has taken what she considers “her gift of life” and achieved so much including playing major roles in the creation of both the United Sates National Holocaust Museum and the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. … But perhaps her final hurrah and what will surely be one of her most enduring legacies, is her generous dedication of the Dr. Helen N. Fagin Holocaust Collection, which is housed at the Cook Library on the New College campus.
