Prospective students and families braved chilly weather for fall’s Experience New College open house event Nov. 16.
Experience New College is often a prospective student’s first glimpse of campus and of New College life. The event has changed in recent years to incorporate more of the campus community, according to Campus Visit Coordinator Cliff Lundin.
Students attended mini-classes taught by some of New College’s top faculty members. Environmental science program director Heidi Harley’s “Dolphin Communication” class was a popular choice, with other options including philosophy professor Aron Edidin’s “Mind and Body,” sociology associate professor Sarah Hernandez’s “Inequality in America,” and computer science assistant professor Matt Lepinski’s “How Does the Internet Work?”
Parents and families, in the meantime, spent time talking to representatives from campus offices, like Financial Aid, Housing, the Writing Center, and Student Affairs.
Attendees got to sample barbecue provided by Metz Culinary Management, and chat with student ambassadors over lunch.
“It’s definitely a larger event now,” said Lundin, compared to two to three years ago. The event now includes more student clubs and organizations, as well as campus resources so parents can ask important questions about the student experience at New College.
The next Experience New College will take place on Feb. 15, 2020.
