New College of Florida will present “ReNEWing Community: Presidential Inauguration Week,” an eight-day initiative, from Feb. 19-26, 2022, in honor of the formal inauguration of its new president, Dr. Patricia Okker, on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The official ceremony will commence at 4 p.m. with a procession from the Academic Center down Dort Promenade to College Hall. The inauguration ceremony will be held outside College Hall and will conclude with a lemonade toast on the bayfront.

Okker was appointed president of New College of Florida on July 1, 2021. Prior to her arrival at New College, she spent 31 years at the University of Missouri, both as a faculty member in the department of English and in a variety of leadership roles. Her teaching and scholarship focus on 19th century American literature, particularly American periodicals and women’s writing.

Inauguration Week festivities include an academic showcase, virtual mini-classes, a juried student art exhibit, and the New Schools of Black Thought History Symposium themed “Reclaiming Wellness.” The week concludes on Saturday, Feb. 26 with NCF Day of Service. The public is invited to participate in all programs. For more information and to register, click here.
