New College Student Presents at Annual Symposium
Thomas Hartsfield, fourth year physics student, presented a talk and a poster at the 2009 Annual Symposium of the Florida Chapter of AVS Science and Technology Society and the Florida Society for Microscopy, held in UCF, Orlando March 8 – 10, 2009. He was the only undergraduate student to give a talk at the Young Leaders Session of the Symposium.
In addition, he was awarded third place in the student poster session competition and received a cash prize of $100. The topic of Tom’s research is Characterization and Modeling Silicon Migration Induced Transformations. The work was carried out during his Summer REU at Stanford University. At New College he works closely with Professor Mariana Sendova.
