New College Saddened by Passing of Al Gilligan, Former Assistant to the VP for Finance and Administration
Al Gilligan, former Assistant to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, passed away on Sunday, November 21, following prolonged illness. Having enjoyed a successful career at Florida State University, Al joined New College of Florida in 2003 and served with distinction until 2009, when he retired due to health reasons. During his employment, Al helped steer New College through its early years of independence and assisted in the development of business and facilities operations required to operate the College. Besides being a consummate professional, Al will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, his friendly and outgoing personality, his sage advice, and his heartfelt compassion for New College’s faculty, staff and students.
Al is survived by his wife Cindy, who is employed in the College’s Business Office; by his daughter Alicia and her husband Toby Armor, as well as their two children Ella and Ethan; by his daughter Brooks and her husband Keith Westcott, and their daughter Lilley; and by his son Grant, a 9th grader at Braden River High School.
A memorial service for Al will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee on Saturday, December 4, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grant Nicholas Gilligan Scholarship Fund, SunTrust Bank, 6779 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida, 32312.
