New College of Florida Students Awarded Summer Internships
(May 18, 2010) When the 2009-2010 academic year at New College of Florida comes to a close this week, a large contingent of students will pick up where they left off in their studies as they venture around the country to participate in prized internship opportunities, many of them sponsored by the Federal government.
Here is a look at how some of our graduating seniors and returning students will be spending their summer this year:
Alice Abernathy, a graduating senior in biochemistry from Naples, Florida, was awarded a summer internship at the National Institutes of Health, where she will be working at the National Cancer Institute. The program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research. When she finishes her research, Abernathy will fly to Spain as one of New College’s six Fulbright Scholars for 2010-11.
