New College of Florida Launches YouTube Education Channel
New College of Florida today announced the launch of an education channel for the College on the widely-popular video sharing website YouTube. The channel, www.youtube.com/NewCollegeofFL, currently includes more than 30 videos, featuring guest and faculty lectures, musical performances, profiles of New College students and coverage of special events held on campus. All are free to the general public.
According to Greg Hite, the College’s new media coordinator, New College’s new YouTube channel provides a high-tech tool that will enhance recruitment and community outreach efforts while also enabling the College to keep alumni around the country informed about what’s happening on campus. “YouTube enables us to make our videos easily available to a wide audience and to showcase the vibrant academic and campus life here at New College,” he said.
Five separate playlists have been created on the site: Admissions, Lectures, Student Life, Academics and News. In addition, the College has created playlists for recurring events, performances and lecture series, such as Traces of Our Past, New Topics New College and New Music New College.
New College’s Office of Public Affairs manages the content on the YouTube channel, which is free and open to the general public. Subscribers to the site receive the additional benefit of being notified when new videos are posted. Viewers also have the opportunity to post comments and feedback about each video. According to Hite, these features allow viewers to become engaged in the content and provide the College with valuable feedback.
Founded in February 2005, YouTube is the leading online video community that allows people to discover, watch and share originally created videos. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips on www.YouTube.com and across the Internet through websites, blogs and e-mail.
