U.S News & World Report’s annual rankings of U.S. colleges and universities were released today, and for the second time this month Sarasota-based New College of Florida has been selected among the nation’s top liberal arts colleges.

In U.S. News & World Report’s 2010 edition of “America’s Best Colleges,” which is scheduled to hit newsstands on Monday, New College is rated as the nation’s #5 ranked Public Liberal Arts College and #97 overall among All Public and Private Liberal Arts Colleges in the country.  Among Public Liberal Arts Colleges, St. Mary’s College of Maryland and New College were the only non-military schools to make the magazine’s Top 5 rankings. This marks the fifth straight year that New College has been rated among the nation’s Top Five Public Liberal Arts Colleges by U.S. News & World Report.

New College’s #5 ranking in U.S. News & World Report follows closely on the heels of similar rankings released recently by Forbes.com.  Earlier this month, Forbes rated New College #5 among All Public Colleges and Universities in the United States in its second annual ranking of top higher education institutions, which is also called “America’s Best Colleges.”  In their rankings, Forbes also rated New College as the nation’s #2 ranked “best buy” and as the top ranked public or private college in the state of Florida.

Here is a look at the latest rankings of Public Colleges and Universities from U.S. News & World Report and Forbes.com.
