New College hosts demonstration, panel
The intersection between movement therapy, art and new approaches to cognition will be explored at a ‘Dancing for Parkinson’s’ performance and panel discussion at New College of Florida Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
‘Embodied Cognition in (Inter) Action,’ which is free and open to the public, begins with a light brunch reception, followed by a ‘Dance for Parkinson’s’ demonstration and performance led by Leymis Bolanos-Wilmott, artistic director of Sarasota Contemporary Dance, who trained in the Dance for PD program created by New York choreographer Mark Morris and who teaches at Sarasota’s The Parkinson Place. At 1 p.m. there will be a panel discussion on the theory and practice of ’embodied cognition’ with Bolanos-Wilmott; Peter Cook, an assistant psychology professor at NCF; April Flakne, a NCF associate professor of philosophy; and Marilyn Tait, executive director of The Parkinson Place.
