New College Brings ‘The Naked Truth’ to McCurdy’s

What do you get when nine New College kids take over the stage at a comedy club?
We don’t know, but you can find out at 7:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, when “The Naked Truth” comes to McCurdy’s Comedy Club in downtown Sarasota.
The show is the final exam of the students’ group “Intro to Stand-Up” independent study project, four weeks of intensive writing and practice under New College of Florida alumnus Ashley Strand, a professional comedian and actor.
Each fledgling comic will perform a solo seven-minute routine that they wrote, polished and rehearsed during the College’s January inter-term period, when students take on special projects under the guidance of College faculty.
Special guest comic Stephen Miles, provost and vice president for academic affairs at New College, will open the show. Strand will serve as the evening’s host.
