New College and the Jane Bancroft Cook Library Honor Donors
(March 5, 2010) This past year, New College’s Jane Bancroft Cook Library was the recipient of a 16th-century manuscript prayer book. Lawrence Schoenberg and Barbara Brizdle of Longboat Key generously donated the manuscript with the intention that it be used by the students and faculty of the College. Larry and Barbara have made manuscript donation to Cook Library in the past, and their generosity has allowed students and faculty to work with unique primary materials in their learning and research.
At the opening reception of the New College Conference on Medieval and Renaissance Studies on March 11, Larry and Barbara will be honored for their gift. The conference is a very appropriate venue for acknowledging the gift as it will bring together scholars from throughout the world who spend their careers working with such materials.
Larry and Barbara have spent their lives giving generously to numerous organizations including the University of Pennsylvania where they have established the Lawrence Schoenberg collection of manuscripts. Larry has created a significant database of manuscripts which has become a vital resource for scholars.
