The Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and the Arts will present a free lecture by three professors next month, focusing on the 1816 events surrounding the Negro Fort at Fort Gadsden.
Entitled “Remembering the Apalachicola River Maroons of 1816,” the program will be presented at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 at the center, at 86 Water Street.
Dr. Uzi Baram, professor of anthropology at the New College of Florida, Dr. Ed Gonzalez-Tennant, chief technology officer at Digital Heritage Interactive LLC; and Vickie Oldham, assistant vice president, institutional advancement at Albany State University, will discuss the history of anti-slavery resistance in Florida, an incredible story of freedom-seeking people
