Krusenstjerna Named VP of Philanthropy for New College Foundation
New College Foundation has announced that Sara Krusenstjerna has been promoted to vice president of philanthropy.
Krusenstjerna joined the Foundation staff as director of annual giving in March 2008 and will assume additional responsibilities for developing individual and corporate giving in her new role.
In announcing the appointment Foundation President and CEO Andrew Walker stated, “Sara brings consummate skills and intelligence to her work, and we’re delighted to see her assuming this elevated role within the Foundation. Her academic accomplishments, deep work experience and wide-ranging personal interests make her an ideal representative of an outstanding liberal arts institution like New College.”
A Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude graduate in piano performance and liberal arts, Krusenstjerna holds a bachelor of arts’ degree from both the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. She also holds a law degree from Columbia University Law School, where she served on the Human Rights Law Review and received a human rights internship to New Delhi, India. She was a postgraduate Rotary Scholar at the University of Edinburgh, where her arts funding research was published in the Scottish Government Yearbook. She has a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Case Western Reserve University.
Krusenstjerna has more than twenty years’ experience in nonprofit management, education and the arts, and ten years’ experience in law and mediation. She has been a consultant in the areas of nonprofit governance and organizational development, and in communications and conflict management training for corporate executives. She also served as advisor for the Executive Cohort pilot project for the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice.

Prior to moving to Sarasota in 2007, Krusenstjerna was executive director of Young Audiences of Rochester for seven years, where she emphasized strategic alliance and partnership development. She held prior positions with The Joyce Theatre, the Albany and Florida Symphony Orchestras, and the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.
A member of the New York Bar, Krusenstjerna practiced corporate and public interest law, and trained and worked extensively as a mediator. She was an associate with the Rochester, New York, firm of Fix, Spindelman, Brovitz and Director of Legal Services at the American Indian Law Alliance in New York City.
Krusenstjerna has served as adjunct faculty at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the Eastman School of Music and Endicott College. She is a member of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a member of the 2009 class of Leadership Sarasota County.
