Gide Project Studies the Work of French Nobel Prize Laureate
A French novelist who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1947 but is little known outside academic literary circles is the subject of a reading, film and music festival next month at New College of Florida. The Gide Project Sarasota will focus on the work of Andre Gide, specifically on his 1914 novel “Lafcadio’s Adventures,” a satire posing as a thriller or farce. Sponsored by New College, Selby Library and the Alliance Francaise de Sarasota, which also organized last year’s Proust Project Sarasota, the Gide Project is timed to the centenary of the publication of “Lafcadio’s Adventures,” said Jocelyn Van Tuyl, professor of French at New College.
