Last fall, the organizers of New Music New College, the avant-garde and experimental music series based at the New College of Florida campus, tried something new: a series of salon-style concerts featuring local performers, who would perform and then talk about their performance practices.

Last fall, the organizers of New Music New College, the avant-garde and experimental music series based at the New College of Florida campus, tried something new: a series of salon-style concerts featuring local performers, who would perform and then talk about their performance practices. The concept has been expanded this month for NewFest, a five-concert series, three featuring the kind of cutting-edge performers NMNC is known for, two more featuring works by New College student composers. “We wanted to generate excitement around the music,” said series producer Ron Silver, citing audience reaction to the fall salons: “Wow, that was exciting, I want to hear more.”
