Etudes 1, 2, 3 is the second piece presented in Dance Makers, a music and dance duet conceived by Artistic Director Leymis Bolaños Wilmott and musician Mark Dancigers on the electric guitar. The Etudes are a series of studies aiming to communicate broad and sweeping expressions through music and movement, starting with small ideas and expanding them into sweeping phrases. “I was inspired by Leymis’ choreographic and dance work that we have done together on pieces in the past,” comments Dancigers, referring to his previous work with the company on SCD + NOW (2018) and Propel (2013). “She is unafraid to reach out to the audience and directly communicate, making her work radiate positivity. I was excited for the chance to amplify this quality by revealing it more and more over the course of the three progressive Etudes, with Leymis herself as the amazing dancer at the center of the drama.”
