2011 New College of Florida Senior Thesis Art Exhibition, May 6-21

April 19, 2011—The 2011 New College Senior Thesis Art Exhibition will be on display from May 6 to May 21 at 1517 State Street, Suite 300, penthouse. This annual exhibition features a selection of artwork from the art students’ final year of studies. Artwork on display ranges from still life painting to auditory and kinetic sculpture. Themes reflect students’ broad academic pursuits, indicative of the college’s diverse liberal arts curriculum, and include the history and implications of sugar consumption, the study of dolphins at Mote Marine Laboratory, alternatives to conventional portraiture and the study of music.

Included in this year’s exhibition are works by the following artists:

  • Sarah Newberry
  • Missy Parker
  • Ben Sims
  • Lizzie Tracy

Members of the general public will have a chance to meet the artists and discuss their works with them at two artists’ receptions, to be held on May 6 from 6-9 pm and on May 19 from 7-9 pm.  Both events are free and will feature live music performed by New College musical groups New Cats and Physical Plant.

The gallery will be open for drop-in visits from May 6 through May 21 on Thursday through Saturday between 12-3 pm.
