New College welcomed a group of area high school students and their families Feb. 11, as part of the New College Economics Mentorship Program. The program consists of a series of workshops this spring designed to teach the young scholars about the fields of finance and economics.
In addition to workshops about budgeting, saving, investing and how to build wealth, the students will also receive advice on how to prepare for the SAT exam and successfully complete their college applications. Students also have opportunities to network with economists from across the country, including guest lecturers from Columbia University, the World Bank and The Brookings Institution, among others.
Assistant Professor of Economics Tracy Collins secured funding for the program through a grant and is spearheading the project. The students will meet on the New College campus for weekly evening workshops through May.
