Panel Putting Final Touches on Fla Higher Ed Plan
Gov. Rick Scott’s higher education task force is putting the finishing touches on its recommendations for Florida’s public universities. The panel is holding a webinar Monday to review proposals it tentatively agreed upon last week. They include basing tuition on the type of degree a student is seeking and letting “preeminent universities” set higher rates. The seven-member Blue Ribbon Task Force on State Higher Education Reform also wants the Board of Governors to have more budgeting authority and a bigger role in the selection of university presidents. The board oversees Florida’s 12 public universities and currently has approval authority on presidents selected by local boards of trustees.
