If you listen to politicians, you’ve heard that the purpose of a college education is to help students find a job. And certainly that will be our students’ goal, before long — to get that first job and build a career.
The question is: How do we help them achieve that goal? And there’s no shortage of ideas — from providing more vocational programs to focusing on that ubiquitous acronym, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Liberal arts colleges, such as New College of Florida, believe in the value of an education that teaches you to solve problems from multiple perspectives.
