November 15, 2012—New College of Florida is giving back this holiday season by working with two local charities, United Way Suncoast and Adopt-a-Family of Manatee County. The College has a long history of supporting both organizations and helping out those in need in the local community.
For the 12th year in a row, New College faculty and staff are donating money to United Way Suncoast’s Live United Fund. The fund allows the United Way to partner with local organizations to set collective goals, track results and align programs to carry out the mission of helping underserved people achieve their academic and financial potential. New College typically raises around $3,000 each year, helping the United Way create positive lasting changes for individuals and families today and for generations to come.
New College is also participating in Adopt-a-Family of Manatee County, which is celebrating 30 years of helping families in need. Each holiday season, Adopt-a-Family provides gifts to over 1,500 families and 4,500 children. New College has provided gifts to 32 families and over 100 children in the nine years it has taken part in the program. This year, New College faculty, staff and students will continue the tradition and purchase gifts for 11 children the College has “adopted.”
New College faculty, staff or students who wish to give to the Live United Fund or Adopt-a-Family should contact Shelley Wilbur at [email protected].
