New College of Florida has announced the appointment of Jim Harman as Interim President of the New College Foundation.  Harman will serve while the College searches for a full-time replacement for former Foundation head John Cranor, who resigned at the end of June.

Harman formerly served as Executive Vice President of the Foundation from 1995 until his retirement in 2006.  Harman also served as Interim President of the Foundation in 2003

“Jim has played an important role in the success of New College and the New College Foundation over the years,” said New College President Mike Michalson in announcing Harman’s appointment.  “We are grateful to him for once again stepping in to help guide our fundraising efforts while we search for a permanent president of the Foundation.”

Besides his work at New College, Harman also serves on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Florida Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Professionals and as President of the Board of Directors for the Southwest Florida Planned Giving Council.

In addition to Harman’s appointment, the New College Foundation recently appointed four new members to its Board of Trustees.  They are as follows:

  • Cameron R. Cox — Cox founded interior design firm Cameron Interiors in 1987.  She is active with a number of local non profit endeavors including designer show houses for ASID and the Sarasota Orchestra, Special Olympics, Special Athlete Boosters and Spanish Point.
  • Samuel Hamad — Hamad is the former president of International Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.  He established Enterprise Associates of Sarasota, focused on developing quality commercial and residential properties.
  • Patrick Hennigan, PhD — Hennigan has been a higher education finance specialist for the past 25 years.  He retired in 2006 as managing director and co-head of Morgan Stanley’s higher education investment banking group.
  •   Christa McGrew — McGrew, appointed as alumni trustee, graduated from New College in May 2008 and was active in student government.  She currently attends medical school at the University of Florida.
