Kevin M. Hughes has been appointed as associate vice president of advancement of the New College Foundation.
Hughes previously served as the assistant dean of development and alumni relations at Stetson University College of Law. In his new position, Hughes will be responsible for the development and management of annual giving, major gifts and planned giving initiatives. In addition, he will provide leadership for alumni engagement opportunities and oversee the management of daily operations.
“Kevin is an outstanding addition to our leadership team,” said MaryAnne Young, New College Foundation’s vice president of advancement and executive director. “He has an impressive track record of building philanthropic support, managing institutional fundraising campaigns, and creating innovative—and successful—donor and alumni engagement programs. I look forward to working with Kevin to take our advancement efforts to the next transformative level.”
As a first-generation college graduate, Hughes feels a deep connection to New College Foundation’s mission. “Scholarships made my college education possible,” he said. “Coming from that background, I’m passionate about joining the Foundation’s efforts to empower the next generation of college students.”
Hughes adds that he’s deeply impressed with the caliber of people who make up the New College family and looks forward to working with them on behalf of the college and community. “We all share a common cause,” he said. “New College has an extraordinary legacy and dynamic trajectory. Its strategic growth benefits our entire region.”
At Stetson University College of Law, Hughes managed a seven-person staff. His team was responsible for all development and alumni relations activities for the College of Law’s 11,000 alumni. In addition to working as the chief fundraiser, Hughes also managed a portfolio of more than 75 major and planned gift prospects, and provided leadership and strategic coordination of the office’s efforts in major giving, annual giving, planned giving, alumni relations, database management and gift processing.
During his five years at Stetson, the institution experienced significant increases in alumni participation rate, donor retention rate, annual fund growth, planned giving commitments, and major gift commitments. It also established more than 30 new scholarship endowments.
Before his tenure at Stetson, Hughes was a development officer at Denison University from 2010 to 2014 and a senior development officer at the OhioHealth Foundation from 2007 to 2010. He is a member of the Association of American Law Schools – Section on Institutional Advancement) and the Council for Advancement & Support of Education. Hughes received bachelor of science degrees in political science and biology at Allegheny College.
