Senate President-Designate Joe Negron (R-Stuart) will visit New College of Florida on Wednesday, April 20, as part of his four-day listening tour of Florida’s State University System.
“While the formal committee process affords senators the opportunity to hear from certain stakeholders, there is no way to replace the experience of visiting a university and listening to students, faculty and administrators,” said President-Designate Negron.
Negron is expected to be joined by colleagues from the Florida Senate as he meets with students, faculty and administrators.
At New College, he is scheduled to visit laboratories in the Heiser Natural Sciences Complex, which the Senate, House and Gov. Rick Scott recently approved for a major expansion.  Nearly one-third of New College students major in the sciences or mathematics.
Negron has announced that Florida’s higher education system will be one of his top priorities.
“Over the last several years, I have had the opportunity to discuss with fellow Senators my goal of making Florida’s good universities great. My colleagues share this goal. We look forward to making our State University System a focus of the next two years, and this listening tour will provide important insight for future legislative action,” Negron said.
Sen. Negron is expected to visit New College from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on April 20.  Meetings are open to the public, and additional schedule information will follow.
