New College of Florida has named Dr. Bradley Thiessen as director of institutional performance assessment.
In this newly created position, Thiessen will examine academic and other performance data in order to inform and improve the College’s programs. Thiessen comes to New College from St. Ambrose University, a private institution in Davenport, Iowa, where he served for 12 years as university assessment coordinator and a faculty member in the department of mathematics and statistics, including a term as department chair. He worked on institutional assessment, faculty development, accreditation and other issues.
He previously worked in similar roles at Touro University California and in the public school system in Clinton, Iowa.
“Brad is a superb statistician, and his broad and deep experience helping schools understand the effectiveness of their programs will enable New College to do even more to help our students succeed, both before and after graduation,” said New College President Don O’Shea. “We’re excited to have him join us.”
“My views on education align with those of New College, and I believe I can help New College continue moving forward,” Thiessen said.
Thiessen has a doctorate and master’s degree from University of Iowa in educational measurement and statistics, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from St. Ambrose University. He also has an accreditation as a professional statistician from the American Statistical Association.
He began work at New College in July.
