(August 28, 2008) — Associate Professor of Biology Elzie McCord was one of the featured guests on ABC7’s Black Almanac (Comcast, BrightHouse and Verizon cable channel 7) Sunday, August 31st at 7:30 a.m. The show discussed prostate cancer with a focus on African-American men and also included Dr. Michael Dattoli of Dattoli Cancer Center & Brachytherapy Research Institute, and Mr. Henry Blyden of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
A prostate cancer survivor, Dr. McCord stressed the importance, especially for black men who are at higher risk, to get regular prostate screenings. Dr. McCord was a contributing writer to the book Prostate Cancer: Stories of Strength & Hope, a book published by the Datolli Cancer Foundation.
A free prostate cancer screening will be held on September 27, 2008 at the Dattoli Cancer Center, Tuttle and Fruitville Roads, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
