New College Powerlifting team holds mock meet on campus
On May 4, members of the New College community came out to support the powerlifting team during a mock meet at the tennis courts. Eleven lifters participated in attempts at the bench press and deadlift. For many of them, it was their first time taking part in a meet.
“I wanted to do the mock meet on campus because I wanted to show the NCF community what the powerlifting team does,” said first-year and powerlifting team co-captain and president Jacob Brody-Ogborn. “It also was a great opportunity for members on the team to max out and get a taste of competing without actually going out and competing.”
The team was established last semester and competed in its first competition last month at the 37th Annual USA Powerlifting Florida State Championships, where Brody-Ogborn and first-year Taylor Young won first-place medals. First-year student and team co-captain Daniel Schell won a second-place medal.
The team is looking to compete in more meets in October and November.
“I am very proud of the lifters,” said Brody-Ogborn. “They represented the NCF Powerlifting Team very well.”
