Students, the campus is open and classes started today, and we are here to help you navigate any stressful situations you may face on campus. Getting reconnected to your coursework at this time may seem daunting. If you feel that your academics may suffer, that you need extra help, or that you just can’t get to campus or classes, please let us know. Dr. Sherman and your faculty members will help you in any way they can. If you have any personal concerns, the Counseling & Wellness Center team is on standby.

We understand that all of our Novos are facing unique circumstances in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, and we appreciate your patience.
We are planning to resume classes on Tuesday, October 4.
Students are welcome to begin returning to campus tomorrow, Saturday, October 1, starting at 11 a.m.
RETURNING TO CAMPUS: STUDENTS
NOTE: Z DORM CURRENTLY DOES NOT HAVE POWER.
Power has been restored to most of New College. The one exception is Z Dorm, but we are working hard to have power restored to this residence hall over the weekend. Meanwhile, we are planning to ensure that our Z Dorm students have temporary housing accommodations, if needed.
We will reach out to our Z Dorm students separately via email.
Food service will be available starting at 11 a.m. tomorrow and during regular hours next week.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
There are several travel restrictions in place across the state. Please take these into consideration as you make your travel plans.
Some of you may have special circumstances that impact your return to campus. Please inform your faculty members and resident advisers if you are unable to return to campus to attend classes on Tuesday.

Business operations will resume at noon on Sunday, October 2, as work schedules apply. Weekday employees, please plan to return for your normal work schedule on Monday, October 3.

We wanted to let you know that we hope to complete our post-hurricane campus safety assessment tomorrow. This assessment will give us vital information about possible on-campus storm damage and operations.
Some areas of the campus still don’t have power, but Florida Power & Light is working to get us fully back online. We also have to finish the assessment of possible building damage.
We know you want details about returning to class and work, and we’re working hard to get you that information. We will share those details, including campus status updates, starting tomorrow afternoon. Of course, if we can, we will share that information sooner. But we want you to return to a safe campus, so we need to resolve any storm issues first.

Students: The campus is still closed.
There will be no classes through Friday, September 30. For your safety, do not come to campus. Power is still an issue on parts of campus and there are some water concerns. Dining services are also not available.
Travel to the area is risky at this time.
The residence halls are closed. They will reopen only after a thorough campus assessment has been conducted and campus officials are given the all-clear. Our dedicated facilities team and Campus Police will start the assessment process.
Employees (except for critical, storm-related personnel), for their safety, are not to come to the College until we get the all-clear. Please contact your supervisor about planning for your area.

The campus is closed. There will be no classes through Friday, September 30.
For your safety, do not come to campus. Dangerous storm surges, high winds, and flooding can occur with this hurricane. These hazardous conditions mean emergency services may not be available to help you.
The residence halls are closed. Students have been activating their emergency plans. Those without a place to stay will be sheltered at Booker High School starting today and until further notice.
Employees (except for critical, storm-related personnel), for their safety, are not to come to the College until the danger has passed. Please contact your supervisor about planning for your area.
Campus buildings and equipment have undergone the College’s storm plan assessment and precaution protocols.
Residence halls will reopen after a thorough assessment of the campus has been conducted once the storm has passed, and campus officials are given the all-clear.
Decisions and details about resuming classes will be made after Hurricane Ian moves through our area.
Campus Police are available 24/7 for our College during this storm and always. They are also aware of generators in various buildings on campus, including academic buildings, and are monitoring that equipment to ensure continuity.

If you need to go to a shelter tomorrow, Tuesday, September 27, Booker High School (3201 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota) is expecting New College students. Conditions: A Hurricane Watch has been issued along the West Coast of Florida, from north of Englewood to the Anclote River (including Tampa Bay). Hurricane conditions are possible along the West Coast within the Hurricane Watch area on Wednesday, with tropical storm conditions possibly beginning by Tuesday night.
Classes: New College of Florida administration has decided to cancel all classes effective 10 a.m. today, Monday, September 26. Classes are also canceled on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The campus is currently open for operations, including dining and residence halls.
