New College’s Office of Community Outreach and Inclusion invites you to create a dynamic Public Service Announcement (PSA), sharing positive COVID-19 health practices and information with New College and the larger Sarasota community.
Competition winners will receive a cash prize, and the winning PSAs will be shared with local media, businesses, schools and colleges.
All videos should be submitted by midnight Oct. 9. Any Sarasota/Manatee County community member can participate.
Potential topic ideas include (but are not limited to):

  • Proper hand washing and disinfectant strategies
  • Guidance managing stress during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and who to contact for support/testing
  • Do’s and don’ts of social distancing
  • Sarasota resources available for support to community members
  • Other information beneficial to Sarasota and Manatee counties

The PSA must include data from the Multicultural Health Institute’s (MHI) Sarasota community dashboard or the CDC website, as well as the MHI hotline number.
Length: Videos should be 1 to 3.5 minutes (a shorter version of winning videos may be requested for TV)
Format: Videos can be submitted as a shareable link to YouTube (audio only and Spanish or Creole version are welcome)
Judging Criteria: A committee of New College staff and students and MHI team members will review submissions
The criteria will be as follows:
Engaging: Does it entertain or grab the attention of the watcher?
Informative/accurate: Does it utilize MHI and/or CDC research?
Unique: Is it unlike existing COVID-19 PSAs? Was it created by the individual or team submitting?
Meets criteria: Is it the appropriate length and format?
Age-appropriate: Can it be shared with all ages?
The winners will receive: $500 (first prize), $300 (second prize) and $200 (third prize).
