Campus Police officers are now carrying tourniquets.Campus Police officers have begun carrying a new piece of equipment that could save a life in an emergency.
The department has announced are now carrying tourniquets, a constricting or compressing device used to control arterial and venous blood flow to a portion of an extremity for a period of time. A tourniquet is used to stop traumatic bleeding so medical care can be provided in time before the injured could potentially go into shock or bleed out.
Officers have been trained to use these tourniquets, as well as being certified in basic first aid, CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators.
