Airport sidewalk to be installed on campus

The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport plans to install a sidewalk along the south side of General Spaatz Boulevard, located on New College’s Pei Campus, to increase pedestrian access to the airport.

This project was first outlined in the College’s Campus Master Plan, and construction will likely begin in the spring, pending official approval from the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority board. New College Vice President of Finance and Administration Chris Kinsley believes the board will likely make a decision in January.

According to New College Director of Facilities and Construction Alan Burr, the new sidewalk will begin where the current sidewalk ends (at the driveway to the Sudakoff Conference Center). The path will continue on to the corner of General Spaatz and General Twining Boulevards, where it will cross General Spaatz. It will then cross the airport driveway and connect with the airport sidewalk system at the bus stop.

The new sidewalk will be ADA compliant and include pedestrian crossing signage at the Sudakoff driveway, and at the General Spaatz Boulevard and airport drive crossings.
