A message from Ron Silver of New Music New College:
We are so excited to announce the details of our 2020-2021 season! You can see all the details on the Events page on our redesigned website. Click on the images or titles of each event for more information.
We are planning several exciting virtual events for the fall. This all begins with the long-delayed final concert from last season, our friends the JACK Quartet performing a concert we co-presented with Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center in New York. This video will go live at 8 p.m. Sat. Aug. 29, and we hope to have a virtual Artist Conversation with JACK at 5 p.m. Thurs. Aug. 27. All details, including where to watch both of these, will be posted on the New Music New College website.
We have two other evolving online series. The New Sonic Field will consist of a playlist of works by New College alums along with a growing series of conversations between them and our new Director, Mark Dancigers. And Movement Messages will feature collaborations of dance and electronic sound and music by Leymis Bolanos Wilmott and Mark, new Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Jose Martinez, and New College students.
Then, starting in late January, we hope to be able to present in-person events once more. Of course, this will depend upon the situation at the time, so be sure to check back on our website often.
We begin with the amazing flutist and champion of new works for flute, Claire Chase on Sat. Jan. 30. Then the genre-smashing ensemble yMusic will perform on Thurs. March 11. The following Thurs. March 18, a group of New College students, faculty, and staff along with local musicians will perform works by the vital composer Louis Andriessen. And finally, cutting-edge pianist Vicky Chow will perform on Sat. April 24. All concerts will take place at 8 p.m. Locations and formats will be announced later.
We are also working on a virtual Season Kick-off Party as well as a separate celebration of the work and legacy of Steve Miles, our founding Director, who retired at the end of last season. We’ll email you with details of these once we know them.
In the meantime, like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram, where we post updates and lots of videos from past concerts for you to enjoy. And feel free to email me at rsilver@ncf.edu with any questions you have.
Thank you for supporting New Music New College, especially at this challenging time!
