Once a year, New College of Florida opens its doors to the public for a glimpse into its studio art classrooms and the work of its most ambitious young artists.
That unique opportunity is the New College of Florida Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, opening Feb. 2 in the Isermann Gallery and running through March 19.
There will be a reception and awards ceremony for the artists from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the gallery, on the College’s Caples Campus. The awards will be presented at 7:00 p.m., with a talk by this year’s juror, Joseph Loccisano, artist and manager of the Fine Art Gallery at State College of Florida.
Loccisano has curated more than 250 exhibitions at SCF since 1987. He has taught a variety of courses at SCF, Ringling College of Art + Design and Nova Southeastern University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and a master’s degree from the University of South Florida.
Loccisano is a visual artist and lecturer whose notable exhibitions include the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art (2012); USF Center Gallery (2011); Art Center Manatee (2010); Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop International Exhibition (2009); Tampa Museum of Art (2009); Columbia College, Chicago (2009); Clarke College, Dubuque (2009); University of Tennessee Knoxville, Knoxville (2009); Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green (2009); University of Rio Grande, Rio Grande (2009).
A significant commission of his work includes his 2009 music series “Synesthesia,” which is on display in the SCF Music Department. He is a former vice president of internal affairs for Southern Graphics Council International and is a member of the American Alliance of Museums.
This event is sponsored by a generous donation from Art & Frame of Sarasota.  The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.
