New College of Florida first-year student Chelsea Corarito has been included in the new book Can’t Keep My Own Secrets; Six-Word Memoirs by Teens Famous & Obscure, compiled by authors Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser (Harper Collins Publishers, 2009).

The book, which was edited by SMITH Magazine, is a follow up to the New York Times‘ bestseller Not Quite What I Was Planning, in which author Larry Smith challenged writers of all ages to describe their lives in six words.

Smith and Fershleiser’s latest collection features teen voices from around the world, each making a poignant commentary on life in a fast-paced and often confusing world.

“From navigating the hazardous halls of high school, to dealing with extreme situations at home, these writers may be young, but their stories will resonate with people of all ages,” said the authors about the selections chosen for inclusion in Can’t Keep My Own Secrets.

Corarito credits Ernest Hemingway as the inspiration for her entry: “Thank god I am an atheist.” Hemingway is said to have penned a six-word novel, For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn, that the famous author called his best work.

Chelsea, who entered New College this fall, is a 2009 Top 10 graduate of Southington High School in Southington, Connecticut. While at New College, she plans to major in literature.
