New Music New College hosted a performance by Recap Quartet on October 8 in Sudakoff Conference Center. Recap Quartet is a professional ensemble from Rahway, New Jersey that performs nationally, specializing in percussion and uniquely inspired musical instruments.

Three days of events during The New College Challenge launch week brought hundreds of attendees to the New College of Florida campus. Students, faculty and staff (along with business, community and higher education leaders) engaged in community conversations about coastal, economic and social resilience from October 25 to 28.

New College Foundation has received a $23,000 gift from the Sarasota Mindfulness Institute (SMI) for the development of mindfulness practices on its campus and in the Sarasota-Manatee community. The gift was a result of the SMI’s decision to close the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On a picturesque slice of the Sarasota bayfront, the dream of founding a college that would be a hub for freethinking innovators came to life in 1960. New College of Florida was a grand experiment at the time.

New College of Florida is proud to present its “New Topics” 2022-2023 season, with a lineup of dynamic regional and national speakers covering a broad range of topics. Hosted by the New College Foundation, the season runs from October through March and is sponsored by The Observer Media Group.

Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month is always a celebration at New College of Florida, filled with fun events organized by students, faculty and staff. I spoke with second-year student Gaby Batista to learn more about the celebration and the Latinx Club as a whole.

New College Foundation has received a strategic partnership grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to support the College’s 43rd Annual Clambake. The event raises funds for student scholarships.

Cultivating his legal prowess was a skill Michael Reese ’88 learned at New College of Florida, and the experience has served him for decades as a successful lawyer. So, in early September, Reese decided to pay it forward, donating $50,000 to his alma mater’s Law Society.

Looking for fresh ideas and new talent? New College of Florida’s Community-Driven Internship Program is sponsoring a select number of nonprofit organizations and government agencies in Sarasota and Manatee counties to hire interns this spring. The deadline to submit internship project proposals is September 30.
