This service is available to all currently enrolled New College and USF S-M students, staff, and faculty.
Eligibility
This service is available to all currently enrolled New College students, staff, and faculty. Providing your 14 digit NCF ID number (begins with either 205 or 211) on the form certifies your eligibility.
Registration
First-time ILLIAD users must register in order to access the database. Registration provides the following benefits:
During registration, you will be asked to choose a Username and Password. You will use this Username and Password when logging on to the ILLiad system in the future. Given their importance, you may wish to make a note of your user name and password and retain them in a safe location. Here are a few tips:
Other information needed for registration:
How long will I wait for materials I have requested?
Typically, material owned by one of the USF campuses is available within 3-5 business days (assuming the material is on the shelf and not checked out to another patron).
When it is necessary to obtain materials from non-USF institutions, the wait is approximately 2-4 weeks. Your request is processed within 24-hours of receipt — the delay is incurred while awaiting action by the lending library, over whom we have no control.
How am I notified when my materials arrive?
When materials arrive, we immediately send an email message to ensure prompt notification.
How do I obtain my ILL materials and where do I return them?
Articles
Electronic articles will be sent to your ILLiad account. They can be accessed for 30 days. You may print them.
Patrons providing a campus address will receive print articles via campus mail should they choose to do so. Patrons lacking a campus address may collect their articles at the circulation desk.
Loans
Incoming loans are held at the library’s circulation desk under your last name. A current NCF ID card is absolutely necessary to check-out ILL materials — no exceptions. Each lending library has the right to restrict the use of materials to “in-house use only”. This may be due in part to rarity, frailty or other extenuating circumstances.
Returns
Materials borrowed must be returned to the circulation desk of your home campus library. Do not use book drops–this includes book drops inside the building proper. Do not remove the band/label from the item you have borrowed. Understanding these distinctions is a matter of adhering to the instructions on the informational band/label and this policy statement. It is your responsibility to observe and adhere to these restrictions. Failure to adhere to the lending library’s rules may jeopardize YOUR future borrowing privileges.
Loan periods vary and are assigned by the lending institution. Additionally, materials are subject to recall by the lender at any time. Overdue fines on borrowed materials are particularly steep (see below). It is your responsibility to be aware of your material’s due dates.
In most cases, patrons will have a three (3) week loan period; no renewals are permitted. However, the lending institution may restrict loan periods and/or conditions of use (e.g. library use only, etc.). We must abide by these conditions.
Interlibrary Loan is a privilege that relies heavily on a good relationship with the lending libraries. Late return of books can damage our relationship with the lending libraries and jeopardize our ability to borrow items in the future. The following will occur when materials are overdue:
Please understand that compliance with an item’s due date is your responsibility. Any attempts we make to contact you are a courtesy and our failure to do so does not release you from your responsibility to return the materials on time.
Are there restrictions on what I can borrow?
The NCF Library adheres to a National Interlibrary Loan Code (1993) that places some restrictions on the materials we can borrow. We do not borrow the following:
Due to the heavy demand for audiovisual material, videos will only be available for pickup for a short period of time (approximately 5 days) and will be lent to patrons for a similarly abbreviated time period, not to exceed 7 days without prior arrangements.
Can I do anything to speed the process?
We work very hard to minimize your wait for needed materials, but you can assist in several important areas:
Is there a cost for the service?
While there is normally no cost to you, please keep in mind that we do incur costs on many items. Articles provided by commercial document delivery services (the speediest means available) typically cost from $18-23.00 each. Book loans average $7.00 each but may rise to over $50.00 per loan from some institutions.
Is there a restriction on the number of requests I can submit?
No, but please remember that book loan periods are limited to 21 days with an option to re-request; schedule your research accordingly.
